Character of God
A poster writes:
Adam and Eve,
The Father and Son,
The Son and the Church
The believer and his wife.
These things are all set in humanity as to be undeniable if we are to survive. They are there because they reflect the character of God.
Yes they reflect his character and he comes up wanting.
What does Adam and Eve say about the character of this "god" who would punish a child-like figure, with no experience in the world, who had never encountered evil nor temptation, and failed her first test, TO DEATH (not to mention untold billions of her children)? Oh, he's HOLY? Well sign me up for more of that.
What does it say about the character of a Father who would think up such an amazingly complex universe, give his creation the capacity to experience exquisite pleasure and pain emotionally and physically, and then base his entire plan on suffering? (the story goes, he knew before he created that they would fall, that he would impose suffering on them for it, and then make it all better for them (without actually removing any of the suffering until after they die) BY sending his Son to suffer some more as the suffering servant, to whom it is promised that anyone who follows will endure added suffering, persecution and hatred from the world). All of this and heaven when I die!
The Son and His Church. What does it say about the character of a Man/god who cannot rule his own household? "unfit to be a leader in the church" comes to mind..... I think it apparent from the 3500 mutually exclusive sects of his Bride the Church that someone is way out of control and not being a good wife, though each group can point to them selves and proclaim with wide-eyed innocence, "It isn't me! Me and Jesus are like this: X"
What does it say about the character of this wonderful God that believers and their "wives" (I will ignore the mysogeny of this phrase), are torn asunder at the same rate or higher than then unbelieving couples, despite his Will for them to stay together and the countless prayers of the church for their survival? Come on Dude! You want it. Everyone is begging you for it. Get off your Ass and help us out here! Or not.
[sigh]
Because. He. Is. Not. There.
