Sin Abuse

John Not The Baptist at WWGHA Forum makes some good points about Christians and sin:

The problems with sin are many. It is stated that God prohibits activities that he finds to be an abomination, and though not every stated sin is an abomination, the absence of sin leads to perfection. It includes the idolization of a figure (though obviously mythical) who is without sin is, and by default, perfect. There is no way for a human to be perfect. While being "born into sin" can be an acknowledgment that we are not perfect, it is handled in a way that makes being without sin an impossible goal. The idea to create a battle of sinfulness vs righteousness is to intentionally inflict mental abuse on others. Anorexia is the modern version of an eternal problem: promoting image over accomplishment. We can never reach the perfect image because we don't know how to get there. We don't know how to get there because we don't know what the perfect image is. It's a useless merry-go-round.

Christians, in particular, like to pile on the mental abuse. They go one step further in promoting image over accomplishment. They live by absolutes. I say Christians exacerbate this problem because theirs is the only major religion to have a perfect figure to walk the earth: Jesus Christ. Even Jews and Moslems have some reprieve, but Christians have the the figure who walked on water, a symbolic and colloquial expression of perfection. No one can achieve perfection. Christians despise moral relativism. They realize it for what it is: an accurate attack on the concept of sinfulness vs righteousness. It is an attack on absolutes; it offers a sliding scale of human behavior. For Christians, if you can't be perfect, don't worry, we can further abuse you by identifying that every action you take, no matter what your intention, is sinful.

To say that babies are born into sin is to inflict the most mental abuse at the earliest possible point in life. It doesn't matter that it wasn't your decision to come into this world, or at what location or at what time. Nope, we're going to call you a bastard if we see fit. Christianity starts off with every human life propelled into a hostile environment. Christians don't have to self-detonate in crowded markets to make life miserable, they do it by self-detonating their children upon birth.

Masturbation is the perfect target at which to rage a war against sin. It doesn't take a conspiracy as no one is forcing you to do it, it can be done in private without witnesses furthering the implication that one is perfect because it's a don't-ask-don't-tell moral policy, and it can be enjoyable (the biggest reason to make something a sin). Let's make you into a pervert who will go blind for masturbating. Yet, Christianity is the loving religion. It is so perfectly hideous a crime to perpetuate "sins". A fundamentalist Moslem with a belly bomb just wrecks the lives of 20-30 in an open-air cafe. Sin is much more powerful. By mere expression it wrecks the lives of million on first impact. Another reason to despise Christianity.

Note: I recognize that sin applies to Jews as well as Moslems, but my point is to show how Christians identify sin, perpetuate sin and then abuse the followers for having lived a non-perfect life. "What Would Jesus Do" is the most powerful calling card/bumper sticker to remind you that you just sinned and you will for eternity.
